YELLOW PAGES Precious time is lost by reinventing and developing techniques in different laboratories on the same campus. The Yellow Pages serve as a trade directory, allowing Center members to rapidly exchange know-how and potentially set up collaborations. The searchable database provides the following details for each member of participating laboratories: e-mail address, telephone, lab and room number, personal research keywords, themes on which advice can be provided. To enter the Yellow Pages: click here. FIND-A-MOUSE Buying or importing a mutant mouse strain can add months to the duration of a project. To centralize information about strains already available on campus, a searchable database is currently being constructed. Please talk to your lab MNC Coordinator (if in doubt, find their name on the Yellow Pages) about getting the data for your group together. PROTOCOL EXCHANGE For a given laboratory, putting all standard protocols on a website can provide an excellent means for standardizing experiments within the group. Across the Center, sharing of protocols (and comparison between similar techniques) should rapidly lead to an overall increase in efficiency and quality. A searchable database of protocols in PDF or Word format is currently being constructed. Please talk to your lab MNC Coordinator (if in doubt, find their name on the Yellow Pages) about getting the data for your group together. For feedback on any of these databases, please write to Chris Henderson (ch2331@columbia.edu) |
